Today I Heart Amazon

TY Amazon – they’ve finally made the change to ratings that every site should do – displaying the distribution of scores, not just average. Why? Because a three star item that’s comprised of all three star ratings = mediocre, but a three star item that’s the average of 1-star and 5-star ratings is polarizing. Two very different realities, no?

Next up, they need to show average over time – this would be most relevant for restaurants and hotels. Imagine being able to see that the 3-star restaurant was consistently given five stars until three months ago when it started receiving 1-star (because the chef left). That would influence your decision more than just knowing it had 3-stars, no?
