Wither Conchords?

The amusing Flight of the Conchords on HBO (it’s kinda like Tenacious D meets A Might Wind) has been tossing in some strange bits recently – like musical dream sequences with a fake David Bowie. This worries me – it’s the “Arrested Development syndrome” where funny shows know they’re not going to be picked up for another season so they make themselves gloriously unapproachable to the average person via inside jokes and odd humor.

  1. Hunter, come on buddy, this show is comedic genius. It’s not only the delivery (first person embedded music), but the amazing writing (song words). It’s all ridiculous, but that’s the beauty of it. Case in point, you reference the Bowie episode, remember this song:“I said, Bret, you got it goin’ on.Not in a gay wayJust in a hey, mate,I want to say that you’re looking okay, mate. Why can’t a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guyThat he thinks his booty is fly?Not all the time, obviouslyJust when he’s got a problem with his self esteemDon’t let anybody tell you you’re not humpable” That’s amazing…The show thrives on stretching things.
