Solidarity with my sisters

Attending Vassar for my undergrad meant I was consistently exposed to various pieces of popular feminism. Naomi Wolf’s The Beauty Myth was published my freshman year in 1991 and brought to light the appearance burden applied to women in the workplace. Naomi’s canonical example was how it took the average woman 30-40 minutes to get ready in the morning (plus parenting burdens) compared to their male counterparts who could scoot out with minimal fussing. The result would be hours lost per week.

In a show of solidarity I’ve been shaving only once or twice a week. Looking at me you might think “internet slacker,” but oh no, it’s much more than that. My stubble is a fist in the air, a Che Guevara t-shirt, a burning bra, for the modern age. Stay strong my sisters.
